Buffalocentric Children's Book!

WNYBAC is pleased to announce a new collaboration - a Buffalocentric children's book conceived of and illustrated by local watercolor artist, Dana Jenkins. The book will have all the letters of the alphabet framed by Dana's unique paintings and highlight local points of interest, but there's also something special about those letters of the alphabet: they were designed here in Buffalo!
The typeface is Winchell, designed in 1903 by Edward Winchell. The typeface was converted to digital by Richard Kegler, then in 2009, the digital version was used by Christopher Fritton to create 10-line wood type.Dana approached WNYBAC about using wood type to print the letters for her book, and when she discovered there was a typeface that had so much Buffalo history, she was sold. After the completion of the book, we hope to feature the original paintings and wood type prints in a show at the WNYBAC gallery. In the meantime, check out all the photos (they're the only sneak peek you'll see!).

Having known Dana for 52 years, I can truly say that she only gets better and better.....oh, and her watercolors are pretty fabulous too! :)

Indeed she is talented! Dana was our next door neighbor in Galveston, Texas for 5 years and her talent and good taste was manifested both inside and out of her lovely house. Buffalo is fortunate to have her!

Haven't known Dana for 52 years, but the time I have known her has been extremely rewarding. She is such a wonderful person. I have one of her paintings hanging in my home here in California. We worked together for 7 years in the late 1980's and early 90's. It made my workday pleasant.

Dana looks around and sees the beauty of the world. Then she captures it in her art so we can see it as well. What a blessing you are, Dana!
